Time-Lapse Capture

Time-lapse capture mode captures at one frame rate and plays back at a slower or faster frame rate. Setting the frame rate to slow or very slow frame rates may be useful for watching an application or capturing program activity that requires long processing times.

Audio and camera video capture are disabled in Time-lapse capture mode. You can add audio or voice narration in Camtasia Studio after recording.

Create a short recording to preview a sample of the Time-lapse capture settings.

To use Time-Lapse capture:

  1. Open Camtasia Recorder.
  2. Choose Tools > Options > Video tab > Manual > Time-lapse capture. Click the Time-Lapse Setup button to change the Time-lapse settings.
  3. On the Time-lapse Capture Setup dialog box, enter the desired AVI capture rate and AVI Playback Rate. The default settings are a capture rate of 5 and a playback rate of 5. Use the following recommended settings:
    • To speed up the normal capture (similar to fast forward), select Capture Rate=5, Playback Rate=15-30.
    • To slow down the normal capture (similar to slow motion), select Capture Rate=20, Playback Rate=10.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Record.
  6. When you are finished recording, the Preview Window shows the Time-Lapse capture.
