Record Voice Narration

Use voice narration to insert narration into the video. The video clips on the Timeline play in the Preview Window while recording your voice. Camtasia Studio synchronizes the voice narration with the clips on the Timeline. The audio clip created appears on the Timeline when the voice narration ends.

To record voice narration

You must setup a microphone before you can record voice narration.

  1. Add all clips and complete the necessary edits to the Timeline before recording voice narration.
  2. Position the seek bar to the frame on the Timeline to start recording the voice narration or drag the seek bar to highlight a section of the Timeline.
  3. Choose the Voice Narration option in the Task List.

  4. The Voice Narration page appears. Check the Mute speakers during recording option. Use this option when clips on the Timeline include audio. The microphone may pick up any audio playing from the speakers.
  5. Choose an audio track.
    • Audio 1: Overwrites any existing audio associated with the clips on the Video 1 track.
    • Audio 2 or Audio 3: Adds the audio clip to the Timeline and to the Clip Bin and plays in conjunction with any existing audio on the Audio 1 track. Recording to Audio 2 or Audio 3 provides more flexibility to edit and change the narration.
  6. Choose the recording duration.
    • Until end of selection on Timeline: Automatically ends the recording when the seek bar reaches the end of the selection on the Timeline.

Move Audio to the Audio 2 or Audio 3 Tracks

Camtasia Recorder automatically adds the audio recorded onto the Audio 1 track. To edit the video and audio separately, move the audio to the Audio 2 or Audio 3 tracks.

  1. In Camtasia Studio, choose File > Save Audio As > .wav or .mp3 > Save.
  2. Any audio (Audio 1, Audio 2, or Audio 3) on the Timeline saves to this file. Drag the seek bar to select the entire Timeline and click the Replace with Silence button.
