The release of Camtasia Studio 6 faces some stiff competition for headline space in the world's newspapers today. But I encourage you to check out its features—both new and improved. I think it will earn your vote.
One of the most exciting changes is a new MPEG-4 video format, based on the industry's best encoding technology (H.264). The beauty of it is, you don't have to know a thing about techie jargon to produce HD-quality web video at compact file sizes. Just click any of the new or rebuilt production presets...and Camtasia Studio 6 takes care of the rest.
So while you could think of MPEG-4 as the "Format for Our Future" because it elegantly supports richer video with more motion...or you might call it the "One Format to Rule Them All" because it eliminates all the anxiety about what settings to choose...we prefer to call it "easy."

Because people who followed my advice 12.5 months ago are upgrading to Camtasia Studio 6 at no charge. And next time around, that could be you.

The initial reaction to Camtasia Studio 6 has been very positive. Here are a few comments from volunteer beta testers and others...
Rebuilt Recorder
"I LOVE the new recorder. It's simple and efficient. I've trained a few users on Camtasia and it used to take me about 15 minutes. With the new recorder, it should take me less than 5 minutes." –Aanarav Sareen, screencaster
“You can't beat an all-in-one control panel for recording. Love it!” –Steve McLaughlin, director of distance learning, John A. Logan College
Editing Enhancements & Tilt Effect
“...my favorite enhancement...has to be the greatly improved editor functions, specifically the ability to unlink all audio from its video and the ability to edit things separately across 3 audio tracks and 2 video tracks.” –Bob Jones President, Bob Jones Software
“I like being able to edit the audio attached to my captured videos. This gives me the same flexibility I have with my digital video editor.” –Bob Chambers, president, FrontierGold Corporation
“The new tilt effect is super cool. It's another great way to add emphasis, and get people to focus on elements within your video.” –John Fallahee, director of product development, Precept Ministries
Production into MPEG-4 Format
"I'm stunned by how easy it is to produce vivid, high motion videos with Camtasia Studio 6. The new MPEG-4/H.264 output produces small, easily shared videos without any adjustments at all. This feature alone makes this version a must-have upgrade." –Chris Austin, MasteringCamtasia.com

Film directors can use all kinds of camera movement techniques to achieve the effect they want. Pans, zooms, and dolly moves work together for artistic or persuasive effect.
But with screen recorded video, there's no physical camera and only two-dimensional space...so these "camera moves" must be added during editing. Fortunately, Camtasia Studio has made it easy to add things like zooms and pans.
|

Video: Using the Tilt Effect |
With Camtasia Studio 6, we've introduced a brand new effect called tilt, which gives you—the screencast director—a new technique for creating richer, more impactful videos.
By bringing part of the screen "closer" and pushing part of the screen "farther" away, the tilt effect gives you another way to emphasize information and direct viewers' eyes. Viewers focus on things up close but can see them in the context of what's in the distance. With tilt, your videos can have a foreground and a background.
And by combining tilt with zoom-and-pan you can produce a sense of graceful movement within three-dimensional space...rather than simply panning across a flat plane.
We think this feature is cool...but most of all we're excited to see what you do with it and how you put it to good use in your screencasts!
So watch the video, try out tilt for yourself (Camtasia Studio 6 required), and please send us an email letting us know how you're using it and what you think.
